Patch to Plate- Growing Alfalfa Sprouts

WALT: Identify and supply the needs of a living thing
What we did:  
  • Put alfalfa seeds into a jar
  • Soaked the seeds in water overnight with a cloth on top
  • Drained the old water out and rinsed the alfalfa in clean water
  • Emptied all the water out and left the seeds over night
  • Watched our seeds change into sprouts
  • Used our alfalfa sprouts to make a salad
  • Grated carrot, washed and sliced tomato, broke up lettuce, sliced cucumber, chopped up grapes and mandarins for the salad
  • Ate the salad ALL up!!

Rainbow Fish Calendar Art

WALT: Use a variety of materials & tools to create a piece of art
What we did: 
  • Listened to the story The Rainbow Fish
  • Retold the beginning, middle and end of the story
  • Talked about 'sharing is caring'
  • Used paste and newspaper to create a background
  • Used dye and a brush to add colour to our background
  • Talked about the parts of a fish
  • Tried to use all the space to draw a big fish using a Vivid
  • Used dye and cotton buds to dye our fish staying inside the lines
  • Painted corrugated cardboard to make seaweed
  • Displayed our art in the corridor for parents to see

Auckland Botanic Gardens Trip


Room 12 were very lucky to have lots of lovely Mums and Dads to help keep us safe on our trip to the Botanic Gardens.  We couldn't do these trips without our parent helpers.
