Room 12's Learning Assistant Mrs Jackman

Room 12 has been very fortunate to have the lovely Mrs Jackman to assist with the learning this year.

Mrs Jackman's  kind words and encouraging smile has helped us to take risks with our learning.  She tests our ABCs, high frequency words and maths profiles every month.  Miss S uses this information to help inform future teaching.  Mrs Jackman tops up our high frequency word pockets. She also takes small groups of students for Patch Play- which encourages Oral Language interaction, high frequency words groups, ABC groups and fine motor skills groups.

We thank Mrs Jackman and wish her and her family a safe and happy holiday season.

Mrs Jackman and all the Learning Assistants at Sunnyhills School are a great asset to the foundation learning that takes place in the Junior School. We thank the Board of Trustees and Ms Small for making it possible for us to have our wonderful Learning Assistants!!

Junior Syndicate Athletics Day!

Room 12 has been thinking good thoughts for a perfect day with a bit of sun and a few clouds.  On Wednesday 11th of November we were all so lucky to have that perfect day for our Junior Syndicate Athletics Day!

We started the event with running races on the track.  We enjoyed the challenge of listening to the instructions "take your marks, set ,bang!" that's when we did our best to run in our own lane and go as fast as we could.   Miss S. thought that we were so fast! We never gave up and we gave our best!

Then we rotated around different activities like: potato and spoon races, Snag Golf, sack races, high jump, skipping and moon hoppers.

Thank you to all the friends of the class that came to support us. We were so happy to see lots of parents and siblings cheering us on throughout the sessions.  A special thank you to the lovely Mrs Barden for carrying our drink bottle box and Mrs Long for carrying our drink bottle box and taking photos for our blog.

A BIG THANK YOU TO MRS RINCKES FOR ORGAINISING AN AWESOME DAY!!

Shoes off and ready to go!!

Warming up our body ready for the running races!

Go!  Go!   Go!

Hats on and ready for our rotation

Journey of Recycling

Walking in Spring

Room 12 have been using the inquiry process to investigate what happens in Spring.
Room 12 worked with Mrs Barden and Mrs Nagpal to create a 'Spring Mural'

We used a variety of materials and tools to help make the mural.
We hope you like our 'Spring' mural.

Kelly Sports

Rooms 12, 22 and 23 spent some time with the team from Kelly Sports. Kelly Sports runs an after school sports programme for Sunnyhills pupils on Tuesday afternoons.

We had to use our aiming, running, throwing, catching and dodging skills to take part in a variety of fun activities the team from Kelly Sports had organised for us. We had a lot of fun!!!

If you are interested in having your child take part in the Kelly Sports sessions, please contact the school for further information.

We hope you like our photos!

Thank you Ms Yang!

Room 12 has been very lucky this term to have had an additional member to our teaching team. Ms Shirley Yang has spent four weeks at Sunnyhills School working alongside Miss S in planning, teaching, assessing and evaluating Room 12's learning.  Ms Yang's smile, encouraging words and willingness to take risks with her own learning will be greatly missed as she returns back to The University of Auckland to continue her teaching studies.  We wish Ms Yang the very best for her future endeavours and hope she visits us again soon!

Patch to Plate- Fruit Kebabs

As a part of our 'Patch to Plate' unit, Room 12 worked with Ms Yang to prepare the ingredients for fruit kebabs.  We had to wash our hands and put on a shirt to protect our school uniform. We washed, peeled and chopped up apples, oranges, grapes and bananas. Then we worked in our table groups to put the fruit onto our kebab sticks.  Miss S said we could eat our fruit kebabs outside in the warm sun. We are glad it is finally Spring and we loved eating our kebabs!!
