Safe Journeys

Constable Hotter explaining what we should do
Giving our friends the 'thumbs up' for good choices
"Remember to Stop, Look and Listen"
                                                 Thinking about safe choices!
Let's try!
                                                             Using the inquiry process
What does traffic look like at Sunnyhills?
Look at the different parts of the road.
What do we need to do?
How can you stay Firewise at home?
Give any matches or lighters you find to an adult
Plan a safe place to meet if there is a fire at home
Get down, get low and get out!!
If you are in bed find a safe way to get to your meeting place

Digger Day at Sunnyhills School

WALT: Write about our experiences

What we did:
  • Watched the workers using the digger, drill and jack hammer
  • Brainstormed ideas about what we could see, hear and feel
  • Shared two ideas with a buddy before writing our stories
  • Created a mural to share with the Junior School at assembly

You can see our Digger Mural hanging high in our class. We hope you like it!

Do You Want To Build A Snowman?

WALT: Use a variety of materials and tools to create a mixed media piece of art

What we did:
  • Watched the movie ' The Snowman'
  • Sang songs about Winter
  • Brainstormed our ideas about Winter
  • Drew a small circle for the head and big head for the body using the whole space
  • Held our paintbrush like a pencil and painted the outline of our snowman
  • Dabbed the background with a sponge and paint
  • Filled the inside of our snowman with paste and cotton wool (our fingers got really sticky!)
  • Used pastel to draw snowflakes in the background
  • Worked with Mrs Jackman using the glue gun to stick the nose, scarf, arms, buttons and eyes on our snowman

Thank you Mrs Jackman for the special foam snowflakes you shared with us for our backgrounds :)

Leaping into Maths

Fwd: Crossing the Road using Scratch

Room 12 have been learning how to code using a website called scratch.mit.edu.

Because we have been learning about road safety we programmed our cat to walk across the road.   We learnt that we had to tell the cat to move more than 100 steps to achieve this and we also had to use the "turn" code to make sure the cat walked the right way.  We then recorded our voices practising our road code, saying what we should do before we cross the road.

Here are a couple of our examples for you to look at.  We hope you enjoy them.  We had lots of fun making these.
